Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) or Tapping

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), also known as Tapping, is a simple and effective therapeutic technique combining words with gentle tapping on acupressure points.

It is based on the flow of energy around the body, and the disruptions which can occur as a result of emotions, beliefs and even physical conditions. When the flow of energy is blocked or disrupted, it can lead to physical conditions and emotional issues.

The action of “tapping” on a series of specific points called ‘meridian points’ while concentrating on the sensations and emotions you are experiencing, clears the disruption and restores the natural flow of energy. Imagine a blocked gutter or river: the water is unable to flow through the usual channel, and it backs up behind the blockage. EFT enables you to clear the blockage, or release the restriction, allowing the smooth flow of energy throughout your system.

EFT is very versatile and can have a powerful impact. It is a safe way to clear deeply-rooted emotions and trauma quickly. Although it usually involves describing what is going on for the person, it can be done without the need to give details about upsetting situations, while still helping the person to clear the emotional impact and move on.

I qualified as an Advanced EFT Practitioner, and I am registered with the professional body EFT International.

One of the joys of EFT is that it is easy to learn, and can be used on your own as well as with a practitioner, in groups, and tapping along to audios and videos online. It is so satisfying to hear how people are using EFT in daily life, and the difference they are noticing that it makes day to day. As well as working with people one to one, I have run Tapping Groups, usually on a particular theme.

EFT is a great tool which you can use on anything – with adults and children alike. One of my favourite EFT videos shows the impact it is having in a school classroom, on both teacher and children, making life in school easier for everyone involved.

NOTE: An EFT Practitioner does not diagnose medical problems, nor does EFT replace the need for medical attention or substitute for psychological counselling.

“My sessions with Sylvia have helped me to understand what I call my ’emotional knots’. Sylvia has helped me to explore what caused these knots to grow in the first place and how to release them. I find Sylvia’s practising style very soothing. She has an incredible ability to make you feel comfortable, at ease and safe. This combination is a great help when it comes to both working through any difficulties you may be facing, and keeping you grounded and balanced moving forward through life.”
